The largest single load of sawn timber will be exported from the port of Umeå this week. A total of 45 000 m³ sawn timber is being loaded on m/v African Piper, destined for Alexandria in Egypt.
The export of sawn timber from Umeå has increased 16 % during January-November this year compared to 2016, and the full-year growth will reach 20 %. Kvarken Ports expects the growth to continue the coming years.
The growth is due to the increased demand in for instance the North African markets and due to the service level in Umeå. The strenghts of Umeå are the storage areas, the handling capacity and the cooperation between the operator SCA Logistics, the ship agency AF Shipping, the shipping companies and Kvarken Ports.
